So Long Element

Guys, I got rid of my first {technically second} car this week. I. Am. Sad. It has always been hard for me to get rid of things that have such sweet memories attached. (do not read: Ashlyn is a hoarder)

With Mike getting a company car and us already having a car each, it didn't make sense to have three. So, with that, I dedicate this post to you, sweet Element. I got her as a birthday/ high school graduation present and have been in love ever since. The perfect mix of adventurous and chic (kinda).

So many fun memories in this car including:

  1. Moving to and out of college- my whole dorm fit
  2. Countless beach trips
  3. Driving through a hurricane- not sure my parents knew about that one...
  4. Road trips with friends and family
  5. Dates with my boo thang
  6. Graduation
  7. Job interviews
  8. Wedding appointments
  9. Maturity...
It's not like this car is going to the dump. Our family friend is going to be driving it for a little, so I at least know the person. So, enough of this sob story.

In that, I say goodbye to you sweet Element.

Weekend Update- April 24th-26th

Sugar Land was great this past weekend. It was a nice break from the day-to-day and the days felt longer. This was the first time I have gone home without Mike since we were dating, so that was a little weird. My family mentioned multiple times about how they missed him, which was really heart warming.

Hannah, by bigger little sister, and I decided to do a Bible study together. We will read each lesson during the week and face time on Sunday's to talk it over. My heart is so excited about this. Sisters on Earth, sisters in Christ. We read through at least 15 books and landed on one about Ruth and Ester.

We also made a pit stop at Target where I found these babies. I love me some good Birkenstocks, but these knock-offs do the job just as well.

Most of Saturday was spent at A&M's Vet School. It was their annual open house, so we were able to tour the different buildings and hear from the college dean. My sister has always known she wants to be a vet, so it was fun to see her in her element.

They had a reptile section where the volunteers had snakes wrapped around their necks. And worse, some were holding lizards. Fact about Ashlyn: I really do not like {insert hate} reptiles. I think some of the volunteers thought I was the one that wanted to be a vet, so they were trying to put the snakes around me. I kindly told them to back the hells up.

Meet Corey. He is the family dog and has had part of my heart since 2008. Golden Doodles for life.

Sunday morning was spent running and cooking breakfast for the family. I have really taken up cooking since getting married and love doing it for my family. My breakfast go-to is always sweet potato hash from The Paleo Kitchen and it never lets me down. They loved it!

While I was in Sugar Land, Mike was home with his friend Pat. Every time I talked to him they were at a new spot or restaurant having a great time. They ended the weekend with going to the Spurs playoff game. I was SO jealous, but tuned in on my drive home. It was a great weekend on both ends!

Also, today only Ashley Brooke Designs is having a 20% off sale!! Go check it out!

Viva Fiesta

Fiesta started here in San Antonio and the whole city has been buzzing. Well, that and the SPURS! The past two games have been on the West cost and ending after midnight, which makes the next day a little rough. Mike is going to the game with a friend on Sunday and I am extremely jealous. (insert Nick Jonas song)

This past week was full of new recipes, dates with friends, Fiesta events and getting ready for the weekend. I am headed to Houston to visit my Mom and Mike's high school BFF is coming to stay with him.

{SO good}

{theater downtown}

{viva fiesta!}

{mango covered in chili}

{new coffee hangout}

I am ready to get this weekend started! Plans for this weekend:

  1. Hang with family
  2. Wear my bathing suit at least once
  3. Plan for Hawaii
  4. Take lots of pictures with my new camera
  5. Soak up every second!
  6. Watch the SPURS dominate

What do you have planned for this weekend? Go Spurs Go!

Download Sesh.

Time to download. I feel like a lot was accomplished this week..

{fiesta officially kicked off in SA, so naturally we had a cascarone war at work}

1. I started another round of Whole 30. I'm realizing I do really well when I am on a plan, but the moment I lose structure I have at it. I did really well eating strict Paleo after I finished, but slowly started eating grains, dairy and drinking adult beverages. Which is great; I was living life! I just need to find the balance between getting the results I want/staying on track and living. It's almost like I need to create a plan for when I get off the plan. This round I also wanted to work out harder than I have in a while. Whole 30 makes me feel so great just by eating, so there would be a day here or there that I wouldn't go to the gym and it was great! I am seeing how this round will be when I combine eating clean and have a great workout routine. So far, so great! Today marks day 4. I wanted to do this round so I end right before my birthday. I feel kinda bad that this is my 4th round and I keep going on it. Like, can't I learn my lessons? But then again I don't feel bad because I haven't been this happy and confident in a while, so if going on and off is what's helping me then so be it.

2. Mike and I usually work out in the mornings together and do the routine he has planned. They are so great and really challenge me and almost everyday I am sore from it. This time I wanted to see if I could find a routine that I liked and included more cardio. I found this one on and I am loving it! I love how it is giving me weights and a lot of cardio. My body reacts so well to cardio, but sometimes I get lazy and put it on the back burner. Another lesson learned.

3. I really want a new camera. A lot of research has been done this week and I am hoping to find the perfect one this weekend; that fits my budget$$$. I think I am going to go the Canon route because that is what I grew up with, but we shall see:) Mike has plans tomorrow morning with his pops, so I am going to go play with some.

4. My friend and I found a free calligraphy webinare on Instagram and I am offically hooked! It took me a while to get the strokes down (there were a A LOT of blobs on my first sheet), but come page 5 I think it started lookig pretty decent. I just might have a new hobby on my hands! **we did the Scarlet and Gold Webinar. They gave us the inside scoop, which really help two gals who had no clue what "nibs" were.**

5. In August we are going to Hawaii for my Mom's 50th birthday. Sorry Mom, I said your age. BUT, we are SO excited and I have been researching some fun things to do that aren't super touristy. More research will commence tomorrow morning and everyday after that:)

If you have any input on cameras or fun things to do in Hawaii then please let me know! I love reviews and comments especially when I don't know all the questions to ask.

OH, and how could I forget?! Did yall watch Scandal? Are you not ok, too?

April Read- The One & Only

I borrowed this book from a friend and it is so good I am already prepping to finish this week. With that in mind, I am getting ready to start my next read.

The One & Only has caught my attention many times. I have seen it at multiple stores, my office library (where I may have snagged it), and because I searched it a few too many times it now shows up everywhere online. Well done to who ever does their digital marketing.

Besides the awesome fact that this book is based in Texas, it sounds like one that would tug at my heart strings. Why do I like putting myself through those types of books??

Thirty-three-year-old Shea Rigsby has spent her entire life in Walker, Texas—a small college town that lives and dies by football, a passion she unabashedly shares. Raised alongside her best friend, Lucy, the daughter of Walker’s legendary head coach, Clive Carr, Shea was too devoted to her hometown team to leave. Instead she stayed in Walker for college, even taking a job in the university athletic department after graduation, where she has remained for more than a decade.

But when an unexpected tragedy strikes the tight-knit Walker community, Shea’s comfortable world is upended, and she begins to wonder if the life she’s chosen is really enough for her. As she finally gives up her safety net to set out on an unexpected path, Shea discovers unsettling truths about the people and things she has always trusted most—and is forced to confront her deepest desires, fears, and secrets.

Thoughtful, funny, and brilliantly observed, The One & Only is a luminous novel about finding your passion, following your heart, and, most of all, believing in something bigger than yourself . . . the one and only thing that truly makes life worth living.

Let's read it together, shall we?!

Easter Weekend 2015

We hope that you had a great Easter weekend! We spent the weekend with family and friends and soaked up each moment. We went to church Friday night and the worship was incredibly moving. I should have known to take a box of tissues. Mike then surprised me with a treat. We picked up our friends Bryan and Sydney and went to Olmos Pharmacy! I have been wanting to go there since I met Mike... that would be since 2010. It was such a great night!

Two of our friends are getting married in August and they had a wedding shower Saturday. It was a total reunion. I got to see friends that I haven't seen in years and we chatted the night away! It was the best.

Easter was spent at Mike's Mom's and it was beautiful. The entire family was together and I loved every second of it. The conversations were just what I needed. My heart was and is so full. And my stomach...

I didn't post about last weekend, but wanted to share a few pictures because it was a blast too. We went to the Valero Texas Open with our friends and got really close to Phil Mickelson!

 {props to sydney for getting this close up!}

{the gals- me, sydney, holley}

Totally random: I got these wall stickers from TXSC and decided to put them up in our bedroom for a little flare. They add the perfect pop for our wall!

{walls need love}

Happy Monday, everyone! Anything exciting planned for your week?
