It Starts With Food: Discover the Whole30

Lately I have been feeling like I have plateaued in the health department. Mike and I buy the same foods at the grocery store and I feel like I haven't seen any muscle changes in a while. I was talking to my Mom about this one day and expressed my growing passion for learning more about nutrition. Mike is good about covering the workout side, but I would love to be 100% knowledgeable in what we consume. I want to know what to eat and when and the whole science behind healthy eating. Next thing I know I have a book in the mail box from my amazing Mom.

She heard about it through a friend and thought it would be a great tool in learning the science behind foods as well as a nutrition guide. I am only a couple chapters in, but have already learned a bunch. For example, I didn't know that carbs and proteins each contain 4 calories per gram and fat contains 9 per gram. I am learning the difference between micronutrients and macronutrients. So far the book is geared towards the Paleo diet and how our bodies genetically digest foods. I find it fascinating that the aches and pains that we medically treat can be cured buy the "diet" we maintain. I write "diet" like so because it's not about the fad diets we get hooked on, but about maintaining a lifestyle change.

The booked is based off their Whole30 plan. It is all about rebooting for 30 days and consuming whole and clean foods- meat, fruits, veggies and grains. From what people are saying who have tried their plan is that you will never go back to the way you were before. We will have more energy, less body aches, no more artificial cravings. I am really eager to try it out.

One of the first lines in the book is, "The food you eat either makes you more healthy or less healthy. Those are your options." Something put so elementary, but 100% clicked with me. Just those few words have already changed my outlook on what I have been consuming.

I will let y'all know when we start and keep you posted on the first 30 days!
