NYC Here WE Come

Last Friday was Michael's 25th birthday. I had been planning a huge surprise for him for a month and I was bursting at the seams to let him in on the secret. The day before the big reveal, my step-mom casually, accidentally, spilled ALL the beans, and NO one tried to cover it up. Everyone was in complete shock and Mike sweetly acted like he heard nothing. The secret birthday gift WAS...

A trip to New York!!!

He has always wanted to go and I love the excuse to travel with my husband, so I bought us a trip. We are going to spend 4 quick days in the "City That NEVER Sleeps". We keep telling ourselves that we cannot go to bed early and cannot sleep in.. let's see if we can actually implement that rule.

We are leaving in about a week, and everyday Mike gets more excited. I am so happy that he is happy. Sign number 1-10 of a good gift!

One of my really good friends who lives there has so kindly laid out a list of places/things we should take part in. And when I say list, I mean one that should be published. He listed it out from cheapest to more expensive, populated to locally visited, drunk to drunkest.

When we travel, we are the type to spend one full day packing in all of the "touristy" things and then spending the rest of our time doing what the locals do. I am not sure if that is going to work for this trip, but we can pepper in some local attractions and hot spots.

Because he found out about the trip before planned, I felt like I had nothing I could actually give him. I bought him a map to give him on his birthday, but sneaky one went and found it and "didn't" know that was the bag he couldn't look in. Sure. So, I felt like I had nothing, but then I remembered something else I bought when purchasing the trip. Broadway tickets! Mike LOVES Phantom Of the Opera. I have known this from the moment we met and I was so glad I had someone to share the arts with. BUT, Phantom is the only, and I mean only, broadway that I dislike. I have seen the movie, listened to the cd, AND seen it on broadway, but nothing clicks. So, out of my love for him, I bought us tickets. Granted, we will be in the nose-bleeds, but he was extremely happy. Yay for surprises!

We are SO excited and cannot wait to board the plane! I cannot wait to share all of our photos!

Post Phantom Of the Opera gift:)

Our Currents

Current books:
Outliers- Michael cannot put this book down. It feels like he has been reading this book forever and I don't mean that to be rude. I think it feels like forever because he re-reads parts over and over because the statistics absolutely blow his mind. It also feels like forever because he keeps telling my family he has only 2 pages left when in fact he is only half way. It is cute. Next on his list is Blink and he is pumped.

The Success Principles- Mike's step-dad gave us this book and it has me moving and shaking. In the first chapter alone I was inspired to find out then and there what my life's purpose is. Granted, this is not an over night thing, but I can't stop thinking about it. There are exercises to help you realize what it is you love and how to achieve that. It is a fantastic book for all to read.

Current travel thoughts:
I want to start looking into a first anniversary trip. Not sure where we would want to go and if we will be able to have more than a week off, but I want to do something.
Places in mind:
New Zealand
A cruise

Current watch:
BREAKING BAD. We are now on season three and are officially hooked. I wasn't sure if I was going to hop on the bandwagon after the first two episodes, but man was I wrong. SO GOOD. And Bryan Cranston and the show itself just won Golden Globes. Yay!

Current interest:
Money managing. A friend told me to go check out Dave Ramsey's website over the Holidays and it has since then become a daily go-to. His blog is really helpful, as are his daily tips on Instagram. I recommend anyone who is desiring financial tips and money motivation to go check it out.

Current prayers and readings:
Anger is something I have never prayed about. I guess the thought never came to mind. This last weekend's service was all about this emotion and it really opened my eyes.
"The anger of man does not accomplish the righteousness of God."
James 1:19-21
-Be quick to hear
-Slow to speak
-Slow to anger

James 1:22
"But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says."

Having Our Cake and Eating It Too

When writing out our resolutions, Mike and I kept adding just one more. Then another. There is an overload of inspiration and adventure and love that we want to take in this year. We wrote them out separately, but when switching papers we were happy to see that the big ones match up. Some of our 2014 goals are:

1) Focus on Faith. Read all of the New Testament. Become more involved with our church and the community. J.O.Y. Trust in Him everyday.

2) Health. Eat cleaner. Keep working out hard. Tone and tighten. More cardio and abs.

3) Travel more. Be spontaneous. See the places you want to see.

4) Save. Save. Save. Financial control is a great feeling.

5) Do what we love and be with the ones we love.

Three and four seem to be quite opposite, but I feel like we can have our cake and eat it too.

I was so excited to start the list that I already bought Mike a surprise *something. His birthday is at the end or January, so I tied it in with that. I cannot wait to share it with him! More to come!

Knowing us, our list will keep growing. I take that as a good thing. We are inspired pretty much by everything and have a thirst for spontaneity. We are jumping in with both feet first and ready to go. We have our lists on our bedroom mirror for a constant reminder of what it is we want.

Happy New Year!

It's good to be back! We have taken a long time off, not on purpose, but life has been great.

A while ago I surprised Mike with The Office, seasons 1-6, and finally decided we should watch them. It consumed our time and life and we didn't care. I never watched the show when it was on and man did I miss out. I kept having day dreams about Jim and Pam and their cute love story and soon realized I had an addiction. Season 6 ended and now we are being lazy about going out and getting the rest of them.
So instead, we decided we should watch Breaking Bad. I went on a huge entertainment shopping spree on Black Friday and found all of the seasons minus the final one. Mike got them in his stocking and we are anxious to start.. that begins today!

Here is a photo dump of what we have been up to:
